Helping Kids Focus and Learn
At our school, we want every student to feel safe, stay focused, and be ready to learn. To help with that, we have a simple rule about personal technology like cell phones and smartwatches.
Tech Stays in Backpacks
If your child brings a cell phone, smartwatch, or other device to school:
-
It must stay off and in their backpack for the entire school day.
-
Devices should not be used during any part of the day, including before and after school while on campus.
We recommend leaving devices at home when possible, but we understand that some students may need to bring them for family communication or safety.
No Tech Use During the School Day
Students may not use personal devices at school. This includes:
-
Before class starts
-
During recess or lunch
-
During class time
If a device is seen or used during the school day without permission, it will be taken and a follow-up will occur (see below).
Need to Call Home?
If a student needs to contact home, they can always:
-
Ask to go to the main office to use the school phone.
We are happy to help students get in touch with family when needed.
Special Situations
If your child needs access to their device during the school day for a medical or special circumstance, please contact the front office. We will work with you to support your child’s needs.
If a Student Uses a Device Without Permission
Here’s what happens if the rule is not followed:
1st Time:
The device is taken and held by the teacher or office. It will be returned to the student at the end of the day.
2nd Time:
The device goes to the office. A parent/guardian will be notified.
3rd Time:
A parent/guardian must come to school to pick up the device.
After that, the student will need to check the device into the front office each morning for two weeks and pick it up at the end of the day.
Important Reminder
The school is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged devices. If possible, please consider having your child leave personal tech at home.
