Current and Upcoming Events

I hope everyone had a wonderful week!

**As we are approaching testing season, ALL students need headphones.  Most kids in our class do not have headphones so please double-check with your child if they have a pair or not.

**Please have your kiddo remember to bring a snack every day!

Below you will find a week at a glance for the week of March 4th:

Reading - Wonders

We are working on Unit 5 in our Wonders program. We will be focusing on Informational Text: Expository. Our essential question is "How can scientific knowledge change over time?"  This unit will be asking and answering questions, using text features (diagrams), and finding the central idea and relevant details.

We are currently reading about the story of Pluto and when a planet is not a planet.

This past two weeks the kids have been researching and learning about Black History Month. They each chose an impactful activist and created a biography project about them.

Math

For Ms. Snider's Math Class ONLY:

This week we learned that fractions are division. We recognize that a fraction can be represented as a division of the numerator by the denominator.

We will also start to incorporate mini lessons in graphing line plots and coordinate planes.

Continue to practice those math facts at home.

Social Studies

We are working on writing withdrawal slips, and the correct way to write a check.

Students will learn how to earn an income, balance, checkbook, write a check, apply for a job, and interview for a job. We will also learn about mutual funds, nonprofits, supply and demand, and opportunity costs.

Our summative assessment is a day at Young Ameritowne (our field trip is scheduled for 3/29) where students step inside a mini town that they will transform into a town where they work, and earn an income, and we see the direct impact their actions and decisions have on themselves and their businesses, and overall community.

Leader In Me

Congratulations to Gavin for being nominated by our class as Leader of the Month for Habit #5!

We are now focusing on Habit #6 - Synergize

Synergizing is recognizing that "two heads are better than one when it comes to problem-solving" and how to value other people's strengths and learn from them.

If you ever have questions or concerns about your child's learning, please do not hesitate to reach out.  I am always happy to help :)
