Mr. Banchero's Second-Grade Class

MISSION STATEMENT

We, the students in Mr. Banchero’s second-grade class, promise to be respectful to everyone. We will help each other learn.

> Being respectful means listening to our teacher. We do not interrupt him.

> Being respectful means not side talking when someone else is talking.

> Being respectful means being silent in the hallways while not touching the walls.

> Being respectful means taking care of our supplies.

> Being respectful means not saying bad or hurtful words and not letting other people say them either.

We promise to work together. We promise to work quietly. We follow directions. If people tell us what to do or they are not being kind, we think Win-Win.

> We can walk away.

> We can try to work it out.

> But we cannot fight!

We come to school to work as hard as we can so WE CAN LEARN things we need to know. We promise to be our BEST selves.

Welcome to our second-grade home page. In the classroom, I hope to build an environment rich in literacy, in inquiry, in discovery, and in challenges. Together, your child as student, you as parents, and me as teacher can create, cooperatively, an atmosphere in which risks are encouraged and successes are celebrated.

At a time when the traditional structures of caring have deteriorated, schools must become places where teachers and students live together, talk to each other, take delight in each other's company. My guess is that when schools focus on what really matters in life, the cognitive ends we now pursue so painfully and artificially will be achieved somewhat more naturally.... It is obvious that children will work harder and do things -- even odd things like adding fractions -- for people they trust.

and time after time have given me courage to face life cheerfully,

have been Kindness, Beauty, and Truth."
